This glorious ensemble was manufactured by The Davis Cabinet Company Nashville, Tennessee. The firm began in 1929 but really had its beginning around the turn of the century as a sawmill on the banks of the Cumberland River. Quality and style was the hallmark. Furniture made of the finest select hardwoods. The Davis Line is still being made today. To reproduce this set would require a fat bank account! Ours is The Katharine Franklin Series made of Solid American Walnut circa 1940's.

As the holiday approaches, Home Again was filled with traditional holiday spirit. It is cold outside but there is plenty of warmth inside. Lots of candles to cast a warm glow. Customers reflecting on their own childhood memories of Christmas past. Downtown shopping in the snow, shoulder to shoulder, beautiful lighted display windows and Christmas music. It was a wonderful year. We stood back and knew it was a job well done. We would like to thank our consignors, friends and family for all of their support. So on to 2012!

Today we decided to see Lewisburg in all the holiday glory. This is the mecca for the antiques and collectibles market. The town is so beautiful at Christmas. Just walk the sidewalks and peek in all the store windows. Just entering the town you will get a warm colonial feel. This is what holiday shopping should be.

Today we started working on our holiday table. The antiqued shabby chairs are almost completed. A burlap ribbon on each and a touch of holly. We adorned the table with a painter's drop cloth and a festive topper! We used a vintage jeweled handbag with a wooden bottom as a centerpiece. The dishes are Pfaltzgraff Christmas Heritage. This is the original pattern. Today they have something different .

The two wing back chairs came to us today and just in time for the holiday season. I would build a fire place in my home just to have these gorgeous chairs flanking each side! The colors are rich jewel tones and the fabric is sumptuous. Cherry wood, lots of gold, and red poinsettias.

This made it impossible to maneuver a large bedroom set up to those areas. And that is when it was hoisted to the second or even third floor through the window. The beautiful Eastlake walnut Victorian settee is circa 1890-1900. We love this style for the more geometric and modest curves. It breaks away from the excessive high relief carvings of the Victorian era. This is a go anywhere piece in the home. Just charming!

Anyone who lived through The Great Flood of 1972 in the Wyoming Valley knows the feeling. The dike system back then was extremely antiquated to hold back the wrath of Hurricane Agnes. No one had ever anticipated this disaster. At that time Richard M. Nixon was President of The United States and was quoted as saying it was "the greatest natural disaster in the history of The United States". I lived it along with my parents. So far we have had a few of these close calls, especially in 1996. This time it is very close. Now Wilkes-Barre has a zillion dollar dike system in place. I believe this will be a test.

As you know, Hurricane Irene graced the East Coast with her presence. I opened the front door at 6 a.m. and my second Purple Plum tree was kissing the front steps. It was sad to see her go and her twin sister a month ago, but just think, no more pruning, spraying for all kinds of bugs, fallen plums that attract ants, birds, and squirrels. Not to mention the fallen leaves that have to be raked up in the Fall. Life just got a little easier! My neighbor Trapper John could not wait to dig in with the new chain saw.

We all grew up with Lane but has anyone ever heard of Cavalier? This Tennessee Furniture Co. manufactured this cedar chest and dubbed it the cadillac of cedar chests. From the 1920's to perhaps the 1960's it was the hope chest of many a young lady. A gift from the parents at fourteen so she could start storing her dreams. Our chest that came to us today is early 1940's because of the brass medallion and paper labels inside the chest. Regardless, it is such a beautiful concept.
